Evaluation Question 1

In What ways do your media products use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

DigiPak
Our digipak has aimed to meet both the genre conventions of both psychedelia and modern pop. This hybrid is fairly common as is seen in many new bands such as Panic At The Disco, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and The Stone Roses. We aimed to fit among those bands whilst paying homage to the bands from the 1960s and 70s such as the Beatles, The Moody Blues and Pink Floyd. Our digipak is the most effective at mixing the genres whilst staying true to both styles.

This shows how our digipak takes from older bands and still fits with modern comparisons.

1.This is the home page, it includes the brand recognition of the characters which appeared in our music video and the background of our digipak. This is an important aesthetic feature of the website as it must have a recognizable atmosphere and look which is recognizable as our own.

2.Band's use touring as their primary source of profit, album and track sale support the tour. Therefore, both must be prominent on the website. We have conformed to this by making them one of the first things a visitor will see.

4.The conventions of music place emphasis on the band member's image, this is subverted as the band members aren't the focus of the website. However, their pictures are still present, conforming partially to the conventions of the form.

Website Comparison

Music Video
We decided that our video would focus around a single musician to create a multi instrumentalist image witch is fairly popular among the musicians from the 1960s and 1970s such as Roy Wood, Mike Oldfield, Prince and Brian Jones. However this approach to music is not regularly done in pop music therefore we challenge what is expected from a band.
